My last name is pronounced like the word 'fury.' It may seem odd, but I grew up with an odd name. My maiden name was Mahe, pronounced like the word 'my.'
The theme verse of my life: Second Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
I love the deck behind our house, from which I can look down the hill at the creek running through the woods.
Mini-biography
One of the great advantages of my life is that I've lived in several different states: New Mexico, Texas, Virginia, Oklahoma, Massachusetts and Ohio. Moving to a new place every few years while growing up has contributed significantly to my love of adventure and travel.
During the years after college and before marriage and children, I was able to indulge my love of travel. In addition to travel around the U.S., I was able to travel several times to Europe and Eastern Europe, including taking Bibles and Christian literature into what was then Czechoslovakia. I went on a short-term missions trip to Kenya, and in 1989, went on a tour of Jordan and Israel.
Picking out a single highlight of a trip to the Holy Land is difficult, but meeting my future husband who was on the same tour would definitely make the list! We first spoke to each other on Mt. Nebo, the mountain from which God showed Moses the Promised Land before his death.
We were married Thanksgiving weekend, in 1990. Thanksgiving makes a great time for a wedding, especially if the wedding guests are from out of town, but it's not a great time for an anniversary. The holiday tends to get in the way!
We have two children, born in 1993 and 1995. While they were still young, we started thinking about educational options. Our pastor's family was homeschooling, and the more I saw of it, the more I knew that was what we wanted to do. I began, haltingly and with much trepidation, to teach my son kindergarten in September, 1998, and we've never looked back.
One of the deepest desires of my heart was granted in 2003 when my husband got a job in Ohio and we were able to finally live near family. My husband's mother and his brothers and their families live nearby, and I am grateful to God for giving me such wonderful in-laws!
